Michelle and Ron’s profound love for the land and their entrepreneurial drive find their roots in the legacy of one of Gippsland’s earliest settlers: Michelle’s Great Great Great Grandfather, Henry Godridge. In 1848, Henry embarked on a pioneering journey to Gippsland, where he embraced the burgeoning opportunities of a newly settled region.

His adventurous spirit led him to establish the Tanjil Hotel, catering to the needs of the local goldfields community. Henry’s ambition didn’t stop there; he acquired the Morwell Bridge Hotel and invested in fertile farmland, graced by the scenic beauty of the Latrobe River. It was on one fateful day in 1879, while fishing along the riverbanks, that he stumbled upon a seam of brown coal that would alter the course of history.
Henry wasted no time securing a mineral lease to develop this newfound resource. This marked the beginning of Victoria’s brown coal industry and the remarkable growth of Gippsland itself. Now, 150 years later, we take immense pride in inviting you to discover the wealth and natural splendour that our Gippsland farm, “Scotch Hill,” has to offer.

As life partners, we form a dynamic duo, weaving a tapestry of diversity and achievement throughout our journey. Our initial roles as educators led us to the captivating region of Gippsland, where we immersed ourselves in the community and nurtured our family. However, our story extends beyond the classroom.
Fuelled by an entrepreneurial spirit, we embarked on a foray into the business world, giving birth to an ornamental tree farm. Our quest for adventure then took us to China, where we immersed ourselves in the realm of international business for ten enriching years.Â
Today, we stand proudly as farmers, having returned to embrace rural life and the warmth of community, all while quietly contributing to the growth of Australia’s Truffle Industry and the local economy.
